Windsor's scoreless drought continues following 4 0 loss to Plymouth Hockey News

The Windsor Spitfires aren't particular these days about how they score _ they'll take whatever offence they can get.

Plymouth netminder Jeremy Smith stopped 32 shots to lead the Whalers to a 4-0 win over the struggling Spitfires in Ontario Hockey League action Wednesday.

The blanking extended Windsor's goalless drought to over 138 minutes and counting. The Spitfires (2-7-1-1) have scored a league-low 22 goals in 11 games _ a lengthy drop from last season, when they led the West Division with 247 goals.

``I think we're looking for the perfect play or looking to pass when we should shoot,'' said Spitfires head coach Bob Boughner. ``We can't afford to not shoot. We have to get the ugly goals.''

Windsor had several opportunities to crack the goose-egg, but whiffed on all eight of its power-play opportunities.

``I don't know what to say about our power play other than it's not working right now,'' said Spitfires overage forward Craig Voakes. ``We had three or four good ones, but we couldn't score.''

In other OHL action Thursday, it was: Peterborough 8, Erie 2; and Saginaw 7, Brampton 2.

At Windsor, Ont., Evan Brophey scored twice while Dan Collins and Steve Ward had the other goals for Plymouth (6-4-0-0).

Anthony Guadagnolo was brilliant in a losing cause for the Spitfires, stopping 50 shots.

Petes 8, Otters 2

At Peterborough, Ont., Daniel Ryder had two goals and three assists to lead the Petes over Erie.

Justin Soryal scored twice while Steve Downie, Branislav Rehus, Scott Cowie and Kyle Raftis added singles for the Petes (6-4-0-0).

Justin Hodgman and Ronnie Rogers countered for the Otters (2-8-0-2).

Spirit 7, Battalion 2

At Saginaw, Mich., Jan Mursak and Tom Pyatt each had hat tricks in the Spirit's win over Brampton.

Chris Chappell also scored for Saginaw (7-3-0-1).

Luke Lynes and Kyle Sonnenburg replied for the Battalion (5-5-1-1).
