Runako Morton top scored with a battling 43 off 66 balls, but the rest of the West Indies' top order failed to raise a strong total in the first-ever day-night game at the Iqbal Stadium.

Morton hit four boundaries and featured in the best partnership of the West Indies innings when he added 57 runs off 89 balls with Denesh Ramdin (23) for the seventh wicket. Morton departed in the 49th over, giving an easy catch to Younis Khan after he was deceived by Rana Naved's (2-32) slow delivery.

Pakistan players were sharp in the field and forced three run-outs, including dangerman Brian Lara's wicket for 14.

The West Indies soon ran into trouble as its openers departed without scoring after Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq won the toss and opted to field first.

Opening batsman Lendl Simmons _ playing his first limited-overs game after Shivnarine Chanderpaul was ruled out due to a knee injury _ lasted only two balls before edging paceman Umar Gul (2-19) behind the wickets.

Naved removed Chris Gayle _ player of the ICC Champions Trophy in India _ when Inzamam took a fine low catch in the second slip as the West Indies slipped to 2-2 in the first two overs.

Marlon Samuels (37) and Daren Ganga (21) added 46 runs but consumed 107 deliveries as they managed to hit only two boundaries in the first 20 overs against some disciplined Pakistan bowling.

Inzamam took his second catch when Ganga got a leading edge off seamer Rao Iftikhar's mistimed drive.

Lara spent a tense half hour before he was needlessly run out when Samuels refused a sharp single.

Rehman then struck twice in space of six deliveries as he trapped Dwayne Smith (0) lbw and then Younis Khan held a brilliant head high catch of Samuels' attempted cut shot.

However, Rehman dropped Morton on 26 at mid-on that spoilt his good work with the ball.

Pakistan's record-breaking batsman Mohammad Yousuf missed Thursday's match to be with his pregnant wife in Lahore.

Yousuf broke Viv Richards' (1,710 runs) 30-year-old world record of most Test runs in a calendar year when he scored 665 runs in the Test series against the West Indies for an aggregate of 1,788 runs from 11 matches in 2006.

Inzamam returned to lead the side after serving a four-match ban for bringing the game into disrepute during The Oval Test fiasco against England in August.

The first match in the five-match limited-overs series was washed out at Rawalpindi.
